 Our Class Reunion -- by: Donna Shank PickardFeb. 18, 2010 - 2:01:00AM
I'm looking forward to the reunion. Kudos to Tom. He's worked hard to find our classmates.

 Why Should I Attend This Reunion? -- by: Tom SouthardJan. 18, 2010 - 11:39:00AM
For Many Reasons!

Your regular friends are sick of hearing about your kids & grandkids.

You'll reminisce with some of your oldest & best friends.

You don't have to lie about your age.

Rekindle or begin new relationships.

If you don't go, others will talk behind your back.

It won't be repeated for at least 10 years.

Do you really want to be remembered by your yearbook photo?

You can finally find out what happened to ......

 Who's Coming! -- by: Tom SouthardDec. 30, 2009 - 6:18:50AM
Hi Frances,

The RSVP is 84 but we know there are many more who said they wanted to come but never RSVP'ed. The sign up and pay button will appear in January 2010 on our site and we expect well over 150 to attend based on initial conversations and e-mails. You will get an e-mail and/or mailing on the reunion and how to sign up and reserve your seats.

 Photographer -- by: Tom SouthardNov. 13, 2009 - 7:21:09AM
Hey Connie, we will have a great professional class photographer to take many pictures, she lives in Yorktown and does many weddings etc.

Girls/boys separate may be a good option, would others like this?

 40th Reunion -- by: Connie Wheeler WesleyNov. 12, 2009 - 7:06:12PM
Looking forward to seeing everyone at the 40th reunion. Will we have a photographer to get 2 class pictures (one of girls & one of boys)? Hey Donna Shank, give me a call or e-mail me. Would love to come to your house to see you before the reunion to catch up. This is a hoot; when I bartended in Nags Head a hundred years ago, I served Coach Cowley's son--OMG!

 RSVP -- by: Tom SouthardNov. 5, 2009 - 8:17:22AM
If you have not joined the alumni, please do so. It is free and you can use this site easier.

Please RSVP at the top of this page to our 40th year class reunion if you have not done so.It helps the planning committee get a running count of our attendees and encourages more to come if you come.Don't wait to the last minute as this one will have standing room only for late comers and we have booked our venue for maximum capacity.

There are classmates whom we have talked with that have never attended our class reunion but they are excited to come to this one! We know you would like to see them again.

 Plans -- by: Linda Kelley WattsAug. 30, 2009 - 6:27:48PM
I am planning on coming to the reunion! It was interesting last time, but this time I am trying to get back in touch with people so it will be easier to talk with others.

Other DHS classes attending our reunion -- by: Tom SouthardAug. 26, 2009 - 5:46:43AM
Hi Kathleen,

I have talked with our reunion committee about this and we are open to letting other DHS classes come to our reunion as we know many classmates both below and above 1970. We are not extending a formal invitation as some of these classes have their own reunions and we have found so many classmates from 1970 that the reunion size could get out of hand. I know that sounds unlikely due to normal reunion attendance(15% to 20%) but we will not know until we get closer to the date in 2010.

That being said, we are taking RSVP's (go to pg.1 top of page tab) for anyone wanting to attend and have started a Z-list to keep track of these classmates for organizational purposes. You are welcome to come to our 40th year reunion as you know a lot of our classmates and it was nice to see you at the 2006 reunion. Other years and 1971 classmates are welcome also!

Our 40th will be the biggest and best reunion ever and we want everyone who wants to come to do so. Should of, would of, could of is not something to think about after it is over. Be 18 again and come see your friends and classmates!

 MISSING CLASSMATES!!!!!!! -- by: Tom SouthardAug. 22, 2009 - 4:59:20PM
BIG NEWS ON MISSING CLASSMATES!

Wow! We found about 35 missing classmates in the last few days by searching USsearch.com then using whitepages.com once we find some free info on them.

You can help us by letting us know a married name, relatives, places they have lived etc. Other helpful info would be if they have a brother, sister,or parents still in NN. Now we are getting down to the really hard ones so anything would be great. Only about 75 classmates to go, that is less than the classmates that had not been found at our reunion in 1988!

 Reunion -- by: Cris Beamer StinespringJun. 22, 2009 - 1:25:52PM
Classmates, Looking forward to the Reunion. Have been back in N.N. for 5 yrs. and still not used to the traffic (we moved from a county of only 5,000 and I miss the mtns.

I agree with the others listed--we need to have a reunion every 5 yrs. since most of us will be 57-58 at the 2010 and we "aren't getting any younger." See you'all there!

 Our Class Reunion -- by: J. Elaine VonCannon Jun. 21, 2009 - 7:59:00AM

Undecided on attending the reunion? -- by: Tom SouthardMar. 30, 2009 - 8:42:55AM
I just wanted to say to some people who are undecided on coming to the reunion, friends and family are what makes life wonderful. It does not matter what we look like now, a friend sees the real you and accepts you as you are. There are only a few people that even resemble their youthful look of high school days. Some even look better but this is not why we go to reunions. Never let looks or the way we think we were in high school stop us from seeing our old classmates. High school was just that, a time in our lives that we either enjoyed it, tolerated it, or hated it.

It is funny the perceptions that other people have of you and how you think of yourself as totally different. I have found in trying to pull together the website and in trying to make the reunion happen that people saw me differently in high school than I really was. Some remembered me a jock, as a popular person, or as someone who knew everyone. I can say that the only thing that was true was I did know a lot of people but that was because I went from the 1st grade Denbigh Elementary to the 12th at DHS and was born and raised in Denbigh.

The truth is I was C student at best, shy and quite, and I liked music more than sports. I was not a jock or popular or a part of the in-crowd but some people remember me that way. My point being that what you were like in high school and classmate’s perceptions of you mean nothing today do they? If you were a wallflower, a nerd, quiet, obnoxious, popular or a jock in high school we do not see that person now. We see a friend and classmate and we have a lot of catching up to do. So please sign up now, someone just can’t wait to see you!!!!

 update -- by: Tom SouthardMar. 24, 2009 - 12:15:29PM
Keep e-mailing us with any info on missing classmates, this is helping us find them before the next 40th year reunion in 2010. Many are looking forward to coming, are excited and have never been to our class reunion.

Coach Turley has not responded yet to the letter we sent inviting him to our next reunion, but we are hopeful.

We are working to make this happen and you will not want to miss this one. The 50th will be too long to hold out for so RSVP now. Don't worry about looks, how will we all look at 68!

 Famous DHS grads -- by: Tom SouthardFeb. 9, 2009 - 6:04:22AM
Speaking of famous DHS grads what about Robert Cray? He is a blues guitar player artist who graduated in 1975 from DHS. Has many albums see below:

Robert Cray started playing guitar in his early teens. At Denbigh High School in Newport News, Virginia, his love of blues and soul music flourished as he started collecting records. Originally, Robert Cray wanted to become an architect, but at about the same time he was going to study design in architecture he formed a local band "Steakface", described as "the best band from Lakewood you never heard of". Cray on guitar and vocals contributed greatly to Steakface's set list of songs by Jimi Hendrix, Quicksilver Messenger Service, Fleetwood Mac, The Grease Band, Blodwyn Pig, Jethro Tull, Spirit and The Faces.

By the time he was twenty, Cray had seen his heroes Albert Collins, Freddie King and Muddy Waters in concert, and decided to form his own band. His band started playing college towns on the West Coast. After several years of regional success, Cray was signed to Mercury....
